Frequently asked questions
Find answers about coverage, sizing, absorbency, costs, shipping, and returns. Still have a question? Call our specialists at (888) 229-3792.
What incontinence supplies do adults use at home?
Adults use briefs, protective underwear, bladder control pads, and male guards to manage bladder or bowel leaks. Caregivers add chux pads to protect beds and chairs, plus no-rinse wipes and barrier cream cloths for skin care. Home Medix offers 661 of these products from more than 30 brands.
What is the difference between adult briefs and protective underwear?
Adult briefs have tabs on the sides that open and close, and protective underwear, also called pull-ups, look and feel like everyday underwear. Choose briefs if a caregiver changes you in bed or in a wheelchair, or for heavy or overnight leaks. Choose pull-ups if you walk and use the bathroom on your own.
Does Medicare cover incontinence supplies?
Original Medicare does not cover adult diapers or other incontinence products, so you pay for them out of pocket. Some Medicare Advantage plans include them as an extra benefit. Medi-Cal covers incontinence supplies with a valid prescription. We work with over 80 insurance providers, including Medi-Cal, Aetna, Cigna, Humana, and UnitedHealthcare.
How do I order through Medi-Cal or my insurance?
Before Medi-Cal or another plan pays, our insurance team confirms your eligibility. We need three documents from you: your prescription, both sides of your insurance card, and your doctor's medical records. Email them to orders@homemedix.com or fax them to (888) 553-0051, then start your coverage check online. If you're eligible, submit your order and our insurance team follows up within 1 to 2 business days. Don't see your plan? Request that we add your insurance.
Do I need a prescription to buy incontinence products?
Incontinence products do not need a prescription when you pay for them yourself. Each product page shows whether a prescription is required. To bill Medi-Cal or another plan, you need a prescription and medical records from your doctor. Ask your doctor to write the products you need on the prescription, such as briefs or underpads.
How do I choose the right absorbency?
For a few drops when you cough or sneeze, a liner or bladder control pad has enough absorbency. For larger leaks during the day, choose protective underwear. For heavy leaks, bowel leaks, or nights, choose briefs. Add a booster pad for extra absorbency, and lay an underpad on the bed at night.
How do I find the right size for adult briefs or underwear?
Measure your waist and your hips at the widest point, then pick the size range that covers the larger number. Many product pages list the size range in inches, and sizes vary by brand. If you fall between two sizes, call our specialists at (888) 229-3792 to compare brands.
How much do adult diapers, pads, and underpads cost?
A bag of adult briefs usually costs $14 to $35, protective underwear $19 to $38, and bladder control pads $10 to $25. Underpads start at $1.99 each. Buy one bag to try a new brand, then switch to a case once you find the one that fits. If your plan covers them, you may pay nothing out of pocket.
Can I pay for incontinence products with my FSA or HSA card?
Many adult briefs, pads, and underpads we sell can be paid for with an FSA or HSA card. The IRS counts supplies that treat a medical condition as medical expenses. Products marked FSA/HSA accepted accept your card at checkout. Unsure about an item? Chat with us or call our specialists at (888) 229-3792.
Can I get adult diapers and pads delivered automatically?
Subscribe & Save delivers your briefs, pads, and underpads automatically, as often as you need them. Change or cancel anytime from your account, or call our specialists at (888) 229-3792. Insurance orders work differently: Medi-Cal and other plans pay for a set number of products each month.
How fast will my incontinence products ship?
We ship most orders within 1 to 2 business days of receiving them, and delivery usually takes 2 to 5 business days. Orders of $50 or more ship free within the contiguous United States. Every order ships by standard ground service, and you get a tracking link by email.
Can I return incontinence products after I open them?
For hygiene reasons, you cannot return opened packages of briefs, pads, underwear, or wipes. You can return unopened items within 30 days in their original packaging after we approve the return. We replace defective, damaged, or incorrect items at no cost.
